Song of the Week: “Supper’s Cold”

from Thank You for the Afghan (1996)

The accordion on this track belonged to my Uncle Pat Holland, and it was handed down to me. I don’t really play it (because it feels too much like a sport, so I am bad at it), but I did a few lines for this song, which took a couple of hours to pull off. At one point my engineer asked, “Why didn’t you just hire someone to come in and bang this out?” – to which I replied, “Because I wanted the accordion credit.” And who wouldn’t, really.
